“prolonged shrieks of laughter” “delighted screams” wrote the NewsMail reviewer.

This Feydeau Farce was hilarious and with its long list of characters was able to utilise a lot of members; a few doubling up for tiny walk-on roles. Plot and fast-paced action about infidelity both real and imagined, was complicated but here is an overview …

Raymonde (Maureen Dye) suspects her husband Victor (Ron Halpin) of having an affair as his passion for her has cooled. Her best friend Lucienne (Heather Galley) suggests they write him a letter from a “secret admirer” inviting him to meet at the Hotel Coq d’Dor, notorious meeting place for extra marital affairs. The ladies plan to confront him upon his arrival. Victor finds the letter and assumes it is meant for the couple’s lonely bachelor friend Tournel (John Stoutley) who is staying with them. But Tournel has been secretly lusting after Raymonde for years, and thinking the letter must be from her, hurries along to the Coq d’Dor in eager anticipation that his big moment has come. Victor also shows the letter to Lucienne’s husband Carlos (Malcolm Dye) who recognises his wife’s handwriting and in a furious rage, rushes to the hotel intending to kill her and her “lover”. Victor of course follows to stop him.

Other superb cast included hotel managers Augustin (Frank Davies) his wife Olympe (Peg Danaher) and without a doubt stealing the show each time he appeared, 4BU announcer Ted Henningham as Victor’s nephew who has a severe speed impediment.
