What is Youth Theatre?
Established in 1971 and driven by an evident need for exciting practical theatre experience for Bundaberg’s young people (aged 10 – 17 years), the Playhouse Theatre runs a once-yearly Youth Theatre program under the stewardship of the organisation’s Youth Theatre Director.
Youth Theatre 2026 information is here …
This year, 2026, we will be taking 70 youth theatre members from the eldest down.
The ages of Youth Theatre members this year will be from 10 to 17 (as a result of Child Protection Legislation). This means that the member must have turned 10 by the time we start and must be a maximum age of 17 until after Youth Theatre is completed, July 2026.
An audition process will be in place this year. Those wanting speaking roles will need to present a one-minute monologue. It is not expected that this will be memorised, but we will expect a polished reading. Those who want roles with singing parts will need to perform the chosen audition song which will be provided for you.
The following are the important dates for you to remember –
INFORMATION NIGHTS
- You MUST attend one of the following nights with a parent. Important information about Code of Conduct and safety will be presented on these nights and it is imperative that an adult accompany the young person and hear that information.
- Monday 9th February or Wednesday 11th February from 6.30pm – 7.15pm
DANCE, SINGING WORKSHOP AND AUDITION INFORMATION
- During this workshop students will learn a dance sequence from one of the numbers in the show, the song for audition and the character and synopsis information.
- Wednesday 18th February from 6.30 – 8.30pm
AUDITION WEEK
- On these two nights, only people wishing to audition for speaking roles need to be present. You will need to have prepared a monologue of up to one minute and the audition song. More information will be given about what will happen on each night closer to that date.
- Monday 23rd and Wednesday 25th February from 6.30 – 8.30pm
Further information, as well as an opportunity to ask questions, will be provided at the two Information Nights.
What if I’m 18 or Over?
Senior Membership at the Playhouse Theatre entitles members to participate in and/or contribute towards “Senior” Productions facilitated by the organisation. If you are over the age of 18 and would like to participate in Senior Productions, please come to the theatre on a Sunday morning between 10:00am – 12:00pm. Youth Theatre Membership is not the same as Senior Membership.
What is the Organisation’s Commitment?
The Bundaberg Players Incorporated is committed to fostering a love for theatrical production and performance amongst the youth of Bundaberg. We pride ourselves on providing a safe, friendly and welcoming environment where young people can rehearse and perform theatre without fear of harm. The Youth Theatre Director, as well as all members of the Youth Theatre Team, are experienced theatrical educators and all hold a current Working with Children Card (Blue Card) issued by the Queensland Government.
The Bundaberg Players Incorporated holds Public Liability Insurance; however, if a member suffers injury in circumstances where no negligence of the theatre itself exists, the member will have no legal claim against the theatre and must bear the loss personally. As a volunteer not-for-profit organisation we endeavour to offer membership to all those who wish to join but are always mindful of the number of young people we can safely cater for at the Playhouse Theatre. The number accepted into each Cast is capped in order to provide an appropriate adult-participant ratio.
